Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, in astrology

Most astrologers would tell you that Jupiter is the planet of luck and expansion and where you have it in your chart is a place where you would randomly get abundance. I am not so sure, due to the recent transits with Jupiter and the supposedly luckiest day of the year, when Jupiter was conjunct with the Sun in Taurus.

Why am I saying all of this? There is a lot of misinformation, astrology is based on observation of events over a prolonged period of time, and we are observing a new side of Jupiter, so it might be time to adapt. It is the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, and what do we know about these signs? Do they seem randomly lucky? From afar, maybe, but up close not as much. Show me a Sagittarius or Pisces who is not on a rollercoaster of emotions and who is not making the wildest story up, reframing a potentially deadly situation as a life lesson.

So, I am offering an alternative view of Jupiter, as a wise teacher who gives us plenty of opportunities, shows us what is possible, and teaches us that there is something positive in everything we do and pick. It is less about things going exactly to our plan. Again, think of Sagittarius and Pisces placements, as a Sagittarius myself, I can tell you that we are borderline delusional. That's how we get ourselves in the most outrageous situations, kind of blindsighted by the idea that we could get hurt. Typically, we don't but it's a far fetch to consider that luck.

I suggest viewing Jupiter as an aspect of your life where you have less fear, where you can reframe challenging situations as something you can learn from until eventually you master the skill. Maybe an area of life where you have fewer blockages and are simply more brave, not blinded by your personal inner fears. That being said, the luck and wisdom that Jupiter offers might simply be the opportunities you are willing to take because you know you can handle any outcome. The long-term luck is not having any regrets, because you were brave enough to go after what you wanted.

That being said, when Jupiter was conjunct with Uranus, people around me were having ground-breaking realizations and were coming closer to their values and beliefs. When Jupiter was conjunct with the Sun, people were brave enough to go after what they wanted and it is safe to say it did not always go well, in fact, most of the time they did not get what they wanted, but they knew that they should stand behind their values and express them. Jupiter's luck is to believe that you deserve what you want, which grants you the freedom and determination to go after it. I still call it luck girl syndrome.

Let's get into some case studies, I would be sharing stories, it is not about the person, it is about the lesson.

  1. Person x knows that they want more reassurance and effort in a relationship and more respect as well. They know that Jupiter is conjunct with the Sun today, so they ask for it. It turns into a big fight, they don't really get what they were asking for but they understand just how important that is for them in a relationship and they set it as a boundary. Were they lucky? Short-term, no, it led to a fight, they wanted something else. Long-term they did not waste more time on a relationship that was not going to be something they need. They expressed their emotions and values and are closer to finding that relationship.

  2. Person x reaches out to a past relationship that they have not talked to in a long time, hoping to reconnect. Jupiter is conjunct Sun, so they take a leap of faith. It does not lead to the love story they intended, their person does not want to go back. However, if they did not take that leap of faith they would have been stuck, waiting, hoping, dreaming, manifesting that one relationship. Now, when they go through the impossibly hard emotions that rejection brings, they can move to something more stable, where the love is shared. It is again long-term luck, not short-term.

  3. Person x is wondering if they should give their situation another chance. The typical "maybe they just need some more time". They take a step back from the relationship, get sick, one body problem after another, while the confusion in the connection lasts. When they see that this connection is actually making them feel worse, at a time when they are already not feeling well, that their body starts healing when they are apart - they know it is time to let go. Did they want this? No. They wanted this person to take care of them, to prove themselves, and maybe even make their life a little bit easier considering that they were sick. But they learned that it is not happening and it is time to move on.

  4. Jupiter transiting Saturn amplifies your biggest personal fears and setbacks so much that you can't ignore them. It may lead to you making more mistakes than you have ever done so far, just to see where you go wrong. Depending on the sign and house, aspects too, it manifests differently. Personally for me, when Jupiter was conjunct Saturn in my first house, in Aries, I cut a lot of people off from my inner circle. It was my way or the highway, it taught me that I do have a voice and if the people around me don't value it or don't care about it, then I need different people around me.

  5. Jupiter moving through a new house brings you more opportunities in it, both positive and negative, it is up to you to pick wisely.

  6. Jupiter conjunct a personal planet brings opportunities related to it, if it is the moon, your emotions would be all over the place, the positive and negative ones. We like to think that Jupiter simply brings the good type of events, which is not necessarily true, because what is good for us is not always what we want. That's part of the Jupiter lesson.

As my final words, I like to point out that I am still collecting information about Jupiter and its transits, still trying to understand how it manifests and plays out. This is not a complete study in any way, these are my conclusions so far. Think of Jupiter as the monk who teaches you patience through acceptance. It is not as easy as it seems, but it is valuable. It does not destroy, it does not attack, it simply allows you to be as you are and for you to learn through it.
